RETAIL COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN LOS ANGELES
When renowned Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre opened her first US flagship in the heart of Beverly Hills, the space itself became as much a story as the collections it houses. We were brought in to document this milestone—a 10,000-square-foot showroom that marks the designer's expansion into the American market.
Featured in Forbes, Fortune India, and Vogue India.
From the moment we walked through the ivy-covered facade, it was clear this project would require a different approach than our typical retail photography. Nothing in this space was standard. Every element—from the hand-painted murals depicting Indian flora and fauna to the custom brass display fixtures and intricate ceiling details—was designed specifically for this location. Working closely with Anita's team, we approached the shoot with the understanding that our role was to honor the level of craft and intention embedded in every corner.
The space itself tells a layered story. The ground floor features nature-inspired wallcoverings with elephants, peacocks, and botanical motifs that create an immersive environment rather than a traditional retail backdrop. Upstairs, the color palette shifts to deeper emerald greens with hand-carved wooden elephant sculptures standing as bold focal points against richly patterned walls. Custom millwork, gold accents, and thoughtfully curated seating areas transform what could have been a conventional luxury boutique into something that feels more like a cultural experience—a gallery where fashion, art, and heritage intersect.
One of our primary technical challenges was lighting. Retail spaces, particularly those showcasing luxury textiles and intricate embroidery, can easily feel cold and clinical under standard commercial lighting. Our goal was to ensure the photography conveyed the warmth and intimacy of the physical space—the kind of atmosphere that makes clients want to linger, not simply browse and leave. We worked meticulously to balance the existing ambient light with carefully controlled supplemental sources, ensuring that the rich jewel tones of the walls, the shimmer of embellished fabrics, and the organic textures of wood and brass all read with depth and dimension.
The hand-painted murals presented a particular challenge. These weren't wallpaper applications; they were custom artworks that needed to be captured with the same reverence as the garments themselves. We paid close attention to how light moved across these surfaces throughout the day, selecting angles and moments that brought out the subtlety of the painting technique while maintaining the overall warmth of the space. The goal was never flat documentation—it was about capturing how the space feels to walk through, how the eye moves from detail to detail, how each layer reveals itself gradually.
Throughout the process, we worked closely with Anita's team to ensure we were capturing not just the aesthetics, but the narrative. This is a designer who built her brand on sustainable practices and a commitment to preserving traditional Indian craftsmanship. The Beverly Hills flagship is an extension of that philosophy—every brass rail, every hand-painted detail, every custom furniture piece was sourced or created with intention. Our photography needed to reflect that level of care without becoming overly precious or losing the sense of warmth and accessibility that defines the brand.
The Fortune India feature that emerged from this project highlights how the showroom represents Dongre's vision of bringing Indian design sensibility to a global stage. But beyond the press coverage, what we're most proud of is how these images serve the space itself—how they capture the interplay of light and texture, the balance between opulence and comfort, the way custom craftsmanship elevates a retail environment into something more memorable.
This project reminded us why we're drawn to spaces where design is treated as a holistic experience. When a client invests in custom fabrication, hand-painted artistry, and architectural details that could easily go unnoticed, our role becomes about translation—turning three-dimensional craft into two-dimensional imagery that still carries weight, texture, and emotional resonance. The Beverly Hills showroom is more than a store; it's a carefully constructed environment where every detail has been considered. And our job was to make sure those details—the ones that might be missed in a quick walkthrough—are given the attention they deserve.
