ABOUT
With a perfect blend of luxury, modern design, and nature, Aldea Canzul Tulum offers a tranquil escape. Their beachfront luxury hotel in Tulum features three private residences overlooking the Caribbean Sea and lush Mayan jungle. Situated in the rustic sophistication on the white sand, steps from the azure ocean. Arturo+Lauren were hired to shoot photography and video for this dazzling oasis by Ahau Collection, who have five other lovely hotels in Tulum. In fact, Ahau Collection is Tulum’s original hotel group. The two villas Arturo+Lauren shot for were Casa Chakte and Casa Chukum. These villas had multiple floors, with a beautifully grand kitchen, dining area, and a stunning deck as well.

Arturo+Lauren's goals for this serene escape was to elevate the property and do justice to its natural beauty. The in-house team wanted new photos that would exude this natural beauty compared to their older photos for the project. These new photos would serve as great rebranding for the company’s social media and website. With quality video being an essential part of marketing properties today, Ahau Collection saw it only fit to incorporate video into their marketing process as well. The group's clientele are wealthy individuals looking to enjoy the Tulum way of life while also enjoying the gorgeous escape of peaceful solitude it offers. With clientele in mind, Arturo+Lauren were tasked to capture the privacy and luxurious size of two villas. The owner of the property is an architect himself, having a great appreciation for design, which is why he wanted the best of the best to shoot the remarkable project.

As amazing as these villas are, there were some challenges for Arturo+Lauren while shooting it. For Casa Chakte, the privacy of the lovely pool area was quite hidden in the trees due to its design purpose. However, this meant that there was minimal sunlight while shooting photos and video for it. Also, the primary bedroom had a very tall ceiling. This meant Arturo+Lauren had to keep the large space in mind, remember their client's needs, and be careful to not shoot it as too wide of a space. Another challenge for the duo was to not show the facade due to the many tall trees present. When it comes to the Casa Chukum villa, the villa was significantly horizontal and there were limitations in the ways the dealer could shoot due to the vegetation law that would prevent them from being able to move back far enough. Casa Chukum's bedrooms were tricky for the duo to shoot because it's hard for photographers to capture when the bed faces the view.

One strategy of Arturo+Lauren's was to utilize the work of a stylist, who integrated a luxury travelers experience with clothing accessories and even copal. Copal is also known as tree resin, more specifically, aromatic resins from a copal tree. By burning the copal, they brought about more of an effect in the shots, especially on video. The smoke blended with the strong light creating a meditation-like atmosphere. The stylist is also a florist and used his own creative eye to choose colorful local flowers that would help express more natural interaction and feel in the space. Drones were also used to get around the villas' narrow and tall ceilings. By utilizing drones this way, they were able to greatly capture the roof and gorgeous sea all at once.

Arturo+Lauren left a seamless quality of work with both photography and videography for their clients at Ahau Collection. Executing their goal of making each space in the villas look very inhabitable, cozy, and restfully warm. Using all of their visionary thinking to create an amazing atmosphere that would speak to onlookers as the very peaceful getaway that Aldea Canzul truly is.
