KAA DESIGN
Los Angeles
A private estate in Bel Air, designed by KAA Design, is taking shape through a multi-year construction process. The project team brought us in to document the architects’ thinking while the home was still underway.

ABOUT
The film follows the project from the architects’ early ideas to the site itself, bringing together interviews, sketches, design renders, and footage of the land. It captures both the vision for the finished estate and the work involved in realizing it.

GOALS
The aim was to document the vision behind the estate before it could be experienced as a finished home. Through the architects’ perspectives, the film explores the project’s inspiration, material choices, construction challenges, and the idea of creating a home intended to become a legacy.
CHALLENGES
With construction only beginning, the completed architecture was still years away. The story had to come through the people shaping the project, the decisions behind the design, and the collaboration required to bring an estate of this scale to life.
STRATEGY
We filmed at the KAA Design office, creating a distinct interview setting for each architect and tailoring the conversation to their role in the project. Founder Grant Kirkpatrick spoke in his office, framed by printed project references, and again on site, where his surroundings brought him closer to the work in progress. We also filmed the landscape architect outdoors, connecting his perspective to the natural setting that informs the design.
At the site, we documented its current conditions and filmed from the same angles shown in the architectural renders. In the edit, footage from these matching perspectives transitions into the renderings, helping viewers imagine how the completed estate will sit within the landscape. Sketches and other design materials add another layer, tracing the project from concept toward construction.
Between interviews, we captured the team reviewing project materials, walking and talking through ideas, working together, and opening large sketchbooks. These moments bring movement and texture to the film while showing the project as an evolving collaboration.
OUTCOME
The film documents the estate at an early but defining point in its development. By combining the architects’ voices with sketches, renders, and footage from the site, it makes the vision tangible while preserving a record of the ideas and decisions shaping a home designed to endure.
