MILLBOARD

For this project, the focus was not simply on documenting a surface, but on showing how Millboard becomes part of the architecture around it.

The wood grain carries much of that story. Up close, its texture, variation, and tonal depth give the material a convincing sense of character. Across wider views, it creates continuity between the building’s structure and the spaces people move through, bringing warmth to areas that could otherwise feel hard or purely functional.

ABOUT

We photographed Millboard across a range of applications, from flooring and terraces to vertical surfaces and overhead details. Each use shifts its role. Underfoot, it grounds an outdoor space and sets a relaxed rhythm for movement. Used on walls or ceilings, it introduces dimension and a more immersive architectural finish, drawing the eye through the building rather than stopping at its edges.

Light was equally important. In direct sun, the grain and relief become more pronounced, with shadows revealing the material’s depth. In softer or lower light, the surface reads differently: calmer, richer, and more integrated with the surrounding architecture. Capturing those changes helped show that the material is not static. It responds to the time of day, the angle of the light, and the way each space is used.

The result is a series of images that places Millboard in context: a material designed to hold up to daily use while contributing texture, warmth, and visual continuity across the built environment.
